Hi. I’m Judi Kamien.
For thirty years, I’ve worked with smart, talented people to create and grow welcoming, empowering, and successful nonprofit brands and businesses.
Most recently, as founding Chief Development Officer, I helped launch the Springfield Daily Citizen, a nonprofit news outlet in one of the midwestern United States’ fastest-growing cities. In just two years, my team and I transformed a spark of an idea into southwest Missouri’s largest independent provider of timely, critical information. I’m proud that today, the Daily Citizen is well on its way to becoming the journal of record for its community.
Right now, I’m counseling nonprofits in a diversity of fields. I help them streamline their operations, develop capital, roll out new programs, and imagine brighter futures. One of my clients is a startup aiming to change the way people and organizations interact with the issue of cybersecurity; I’m also working with young news outlets and allied organizations, as well as religious organizations in the midwestern U.S. determined to increase security on their campuses.
I’ve held senior leadership positions at some of the U.S.’ most forward-thinking cultural institutions during times of opportunity and transformation. I was director of institutional giving at the Museum of Arts and Design while it rebranded, rebuilt, and moved to 2 Columbus Circle; development director at Symphony Space for the launch of its 30th anniversary campaign; and the first director of development at the now-shuttered Museum of Biblical Art. Before I joined the Daily Citizen’s startup team, I consulted for creative organizations across North America. You can see some client and project information here.
Working with large and small teams, brand consultants, and independently, I’ve created websites, branding packages, strategic plans, transition plans, outreach materials, funding plans, funding campaigns, campaign collaterals, targeted proposals, annual budgets, annual reports, media kits, standards manuals, and more. I’ve ghosted editorials, speeches, thought pieces, and native content, and I’ve published my own writing, on my sites and on behalf of the organizations I’ve been privileged to work with. I’m tech-curious and conversant with a wide variety of platforms, including many software-as-a-service offerings — but my first loves are strategic thinking, writing, and design. You’ll see that reflected in everything I do.
